Building a Home for Mercy

Dear Friends of the Mission of Divine Mercy,

As we gathered with the overflow crowd in St. Joseph’s Chapel on Divine Mercy Sunday, I had a strong sense that we were entering into a very important time for our Community and our world. The need for people to hear Jesus’ message of Mercy grows with each catastrophic world event and with each tragedy that occurs within our families.

As a Community we have sensed an increased urgency in the Lord’s call to us to share His Message of Divine Mercy. And He seems to be giving us indications that it is time for us to take some big steps forward.

One striking sign came in December. We received our largest single gift yet: $400,000 from the Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation. For our little Mission that is an immense contribution, and it helps to make the first step possible. Another sign: a few weeks earlier, four years ahead of schedule, we were able to pay off the note on the Mission property.

As I said, these events are leading us to take two major steps, steps for which we need the assistance of our friends.

First, our Community needs to take up residence at the Mission. When we actually live on the property, it will no longer be a place primarily for weekend activities, but the home of a praying Community gathered daily around the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

Second, we need to expand our current “humble” retreat facilities, in order to respond to the growing requests. (Our WWII quonset-hut camp house kitchen is looking forward to retirement… or collapse. And our aluminum-frame cots become less reliable with each retreat.)

To finance these two goals, we are launching a $5.5 million development campaign: Building a Home for Mercy. The enclosed brochure explains our plans in more detail. Obviously, we need a lot of help in order to accomplish this. For those of you who are already helping us, our profound gratitude. We trust that your reward will be great. But now we need to raise significant capital to carry out our development campaign, as well as continuing to increase our monthly support income. JESUS, WE TRUST IN YOU.

Please join us in praying that we do God’s will. And ask the Lord, but we mean really ask the Lord, if you are called to help Build a Home for Mercy.
